About Our Preschool

Terasaki Japanese Immersion Preschool is committed to providing a world-class Japanese Immersion early child education to children living in underserved areas within the City of West Los Angeles.

Our primary focus is the healthy and happy development of the whole child – Cognitive, Language, Social-emotional, and Physical.  Our child-centered philosophy allows children to learn through play by exploring their environment at their own developmental pace.

Japanese Institute of Sawtelle

Japanese Language School on Saturdays

Japanese Institute is an independently-operated, nonprofit Japanese language school located at the Japanese Institute of Sawtelle, founded in 1925 in West Los Angeles. Our students learn the Japanese language, experience and appreciate Japanese culture, and enjoy a positive learning environment.

Our school offers Japanese language classes by experienced, native-speaker teachers at seven levels from 3years-old through high school. Students at all levels of Japanese proficiency are welcome. Our school’s focus on education includes an annual speech contest and preparation for kanji proficiency, AP and SAT, and the Credit Test. We also celebrate Japanese culture with activities including Undokai, Setsubun, Hinamatsuri, Kodomo no hi, shodo, and field trips. Past field trips have included Tanaka Farms and the Manzanar War Relocation Center.
